The grand Vesuvius is impossible to miss during your stay in Napoli. Considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world due to the approx. 3,000,000 people living within the near vicinity and its tendency towards highly explosive eruptions. This is the same volcano that destroyed Pompei and Herculaneum in 79AD - apparently the height used to be 3000m rather than the 1281m of today!

Option 1 - VISIT VESUVIUS (100% success rate): Catch a bus almost up to the top and walk the last part to see the crater and the stunning views of the bay of Naples (on a clear day) or for more brave walkers you can try and walk from the very bottom ... If you want to walk the entire thing, please ask at reception for more detailed instructions - it takes around 3-4 hours each way.

OPENING HOURS: open from 9:00am until two hours before sunset every day. However, the park can be closed if the weather is not good - if you are unsure, ask reception to call and check if the park is open or not.

ADMISSION: you will need to pay approximately 18 for the return minibus trip up to the crater and back and it should include admission to the crater also. HOWEVER please do be aware that some companies offer prices that do not include entry to the crater and you may have to pay an extra 6.50 to enter the crater area. Also be aware that it is usually cash only.

  • Go to the main train station in PIAZZA GARIBALDI
  • purchase a U3 ticket (2.90 one way OR 8.40 for the entire day - REMEMBER to validate your ticket at the train station before you use it)
  • catch the CIRCUMVESUVIANO train in the direction of SORRENTO
  • exit at either the ERCOLANO or the POMPEII stop
  • look out for the signs reading VESUVIANA MOBILITA or VESUVIO EXPRESS and here you will find companies that run minibusses to take you up to the top and back.

Option 2 - CLIMB VESUVIUS (possibility of being turned away): Walk up from the very bottom (security is always changing so there is a chance you may be turned away). Click here for our secret hand-written map.
path of the gods
A really beautiful walk from Agerola (the top of the Amalfi Coast) right down to Positano (one of the most beautiful beach spots in the Amalfi Coast). You get the most spectacular views from the walk so make sure you take your camera!

The walk takes about 3hrs (if you are fit you can easily do it in 2hrs). Pack yourself a lunch and don't forget water. There is nowhere to buy anything while you are walking but at the beginning and at the end there are shops.

- The easiest way is to catch a SITA bus direct from Napoli Port to Agerola Bomerano. The timetable can change so come to reception and ask for the bus times.
- Exit the bus at AGEROLA BOMERANO (pay attention because there are three different Agerola stops)
- Once you get to AGEROLA BOMERANO there are signs that will guide you to the beginning of the trail (it starts from the main piazza of the town)
-WALK walk walk walk all your way down to Positano.
- The last part of the walk is quite a few stairs.
- From Positano on the main street above the town you will need to catch one of the busses from POSITANO to SORRENTO. These busses run really regularly but make sure you purchase a ticket from the tabacchaio in Positano.
- When you get off the bus in SORRENTO you need to make your way to the train station (about a 5minute walk) and catch the CIRCUMVESUVIANO train all the way back to Napoli central station in Piazza Garibaldi.
- The LAST TRAIN HOME is around 8:00pm so try not to miss it.
